Siskiyou County Syringe Service Program
The goal of the Siskiyou County Syringe Service Program (SCSSP) is providing services aimed at reducing the risk of spreading blood-borne viruses and other injection related infections among the substance use community members. The philosophy of harm reduction is the key to the success of this program which provides testing, counseling and referrals to treatment for services that are already in place in Siskiyou County. SCSSP provides a bridge to other health care services, particularly substance use treatment.
This program allows access to sterile syringes, clean injection equipment, safe disposal of used discarded syringes and gives the opportunity for staff to educate and offer resources such as the availability and use of Naloxone (also known as Narcan), which is the antidote that reverses an opioid overdose. HIV and Hepatitis C Rapid testing is also offered along with counseling on prevention and care.
