Copco Road Project Update: Early Winter Conditions Allow Crews to Get a Head Start

Copco Road Update

Thanks to this winter’s unusually mild weather, the Siskiyou County Public Works Department has been able to begin certain elements of work on Copco Rd. earlier than originally anticipated.

Building on the progress made last fall, when crews from all six road districts completed leveling courses and critical pothole repairs, the favorable weather conditions have allowed the team to shift into early underground preparation ahead of the spring construction season.

Recent Progress Includes:

  • Installation of approximately 100 feet of gabion baskets to support drainage and slope stability
  • Culverts ordered for Phase 1, ensuring materials are ready when spring work ramps up

Taking advantage of the mild winter allows the County to complete foundational work now, helping reduce delays later in the year and improving overall project efficiency. This early progress supports the County’s phased approach to Copco Rd. improvements, which balances ongoing traffic demands with long-term durability and safety.

What’s Next:

  • Continue early underground and drainage work as weather allows
  • Begin Phase 1 culvert installation once materials arrive
  • Preserve roadway safety through routine maintenance while preparing for spring construction

Routine maintenance will, and has continued as needed, and the Public Works department will keep the community informed as additional phases move forward.
