Siskiyou County Recognizes Harold Duchi for Service on the Fish and Game Commission
The Siskiyou County Board of Supervisors is proud to recognize Harold Duchi for more than 15 years of dedicated service on the Siskiyou County Fish and Game Commission and for his lasting contributions to wildlife habitat improvement throughout Siskiyou County and Northern California.
During his time on the Commission, Harold held every position and provided practical, experience-based guidance on wildlife management issues across the county. His decades of field experience and strong partnerships with state and federal agencies, tribal governments, conservation organizations, and volunteers helped support major wildlife habitat efforts throughout the region.
Harold became a leading force behind the restoration, installation, and maintenance of wildlife water guzzlers, which provide critical water sources for wildlife. Under his leadership, the number of functioning guzzlers in Siskiyou County increased from approximately 40 to 240, providing more than 500,000 gallons of water annually for local wildlife, including deer and elk.
The overall value of the guzzler restoration and expansion efforts, including grant funding and volunteer labor, exceeds $850,000. Since 2021, volunteer teams have contributed nearly 8,000 hours, with Harold personally contributing more than 4,000 hours, along with significant personal resources, vehicle use, and out-of-pocket expenses.
Harold also helped strengthen the future of wildlife management by involving local youth in monitoring and maintaining guzzlers, encouraging hands-on learning and a deeper understanding of field conditions and wildlife needs.
His commitment has earned statewide recognition, including features in California Deer Magazine and Bugle Magazine, where he was referred to as “The Water Wizard” for his dedication to improving water availability for wildlife across Northern California.
On June 16, 2026, the Siskiyou County Board of Supervisors unanimously adopted a proclamation expressing its sincere appreciation to Harold Duchi for his outstanding service and lasting impact.
