Siskiyou County Leaders Participate in RCRC’s 2025 Annual Meeting

RCRC annual Meeting

Siskiyou County, CA — Chairwoman Nancy Ogren, Supervisor Ed Valenzuela, and a member of County staff attended the Rural County Representatives of California (RCRC) 2025 Annual Meeting, held September 17–19, 2025, in Placer County. The three-day conference convened more than 300 elected officials, county administrators, and policy professionals from RCRC’s 40 member counties to discuss the most pressing issues affecting rural California.

Conference Overview

The Annual Meeting provided a comprehensive agenda of presentations, workshops, and policy discussions addressing a wide array of rural priorities, including:

  • Forest health and wildfire resilience
  • Broadband and digital connectivity
  • Water and watershed management
  • Rural economic development and infrastructure investment
  • Energy, climate adaptation, and land-use planning

Attendees participated in plenary sessions and breakout discussions designed to strengthen county-to-county collaboration and identify practical strategies for sustainable community development.

Leadership Highlights

The event featured a keynote address by Steve Ford, son of former U.S. President Gerald Ford, who shared personal insights on leadership, character, and public service. Chairwoman Ogren had an opportunity to meet with Mr. Ford for a thoughtful discussion on civic responsibility and the resilience of rural communities.

RCRC leadership also convened its Board of Directors and affiliates—the Golden State Finance Authority (GSFA) and Golden State Connect Authority (GSCA)—to advance initiatives focused on rural broadband expansion, infrastructure financing, and housing support programs.

Supporting Rural Communities

In keeping with RCRC’s tradition of community support, proceeds from the conference’s Annual Auction and Basket Drawing were directed to charitable organizations in Modoc County, honoring this year’s RCRC Chair.
