Idaho Water Users Association Visits Siskiyou County

Idaho Water Users Association Visit

Siskiyou County Board of Supervisors, Chair Haupt and Supervisor Kobseff, and County staff recently joined the Klamath Water Users Association (KWUA) in welcoming members of the Idaho Water Users Association (IWUA) for a tour of the Klamath River corridor, including the former Copco and Iron Gate Dam sites.

The visit provided an opportunity to share Siskiyou County's firsthand experience with one of the largest dam removal projects in U.S. history and to discuss the many considerations that accompany major water and infrastructure decisions. Topics included water management, environmental restoration, community impacts, economic considerations, and the evolving opportunities and challenges facing rural communities throughout the Klamath Basin.

The tour also highlighted the importance of collaboration among water users, local governments, and community partners. By sharing experiences and lessons learned, we were able to engage in meaningful discussions about stewardship of natural resources and the future of water management in the West.

Siskiyou County appreciates the opportunity to work alongside KWUA in hosting the group and showcasing the unique landscapes, waterways, and communities that make our region special. Exchanges like these help foster stronger partnerships, greater understanding, and informed conversations about the future of our shared water resources.
