County Joins CIIC in Honoring Community Contributions at Collier Rest Area
On June 23, 2025, the County of Siskiyou participated in a private gathering hosted by the Collier Interpretive and Information Center (CIIC) Board to celebrate two significant milestones: the installation of new regional information boards at the Collier Rest Area and the dedication of the River Walk in honor of former County Supervisor and CIIC board member Grace Bennett.
The event began with opening remarks from Board of Supervisors Chair Nancy Ogren, followed by a traditional blessing delivered by Mike Olson of the Shasta Nation. CIIC President Rennie Cleland then shared remarks highlighting the vision behind the Collier site and its role in promoting tourism and community connections across the county.
The County was honored to help recognize Grace Bennett for her many years of public service and volunteer leadership. In tribute to her dedication and lasting impact on the region, the River Walk at the Collier Rest Area was officially named in her honor. A ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Chair Ogren concluded the program.
Located just off I-5, the Collier Rest Area is a key touchpoint for visitors entering Siskiyou County—offering exposure to all our communities, not just those along the interstate. These upgrades are part of a broader effort to better showcase our region, boost local tourism, and support economic development by encouraging travelers to explore, shop, and stay in communities throughout the county.
The County of Siskiyou extends its gratitude to CIIC and all involved in bringing this project to life, and congratulates Grace Bennett on this well-deserved recognition.
