Public Announcement - Lower Klamath Dam Item to Board Meeting

We would like make it known that the County of Siskiyou is taking a Klamath Dams-related item to the regular Board meeting on May 16, 2023, outside of the Klamath Dams focused Board meeting.

Over the last couple of months, the County of Siskiyou and the Klamath River Renewal Corporation (KRRC) have been working on the first amendment to the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the roads and bridges associated with the Lower Klamath Decommissioning Project. This MOU addresses the impacts on County roads and bridges, associated rights of ways, including impacts to wear-and-tear and traffic, due to KRRC’s removal of the four Lower Klamath River Dams.

The parties have been drafting an amendment to the MOU to address a potentially catastrophic failure of Copco Road and to re-prioritize certain actions in Table 1 and Section 6 of the MOU. The detailed amendment can be found at the link below.

Staff is seeking Board approval ahead of the May 23, 2023, special Klamath Dams Board meeting to allow the parties to implement activities detailed in the MOU and the amendment as soon as possible.

We welcome public comment on this item during the May 16, 2023 Board meeting.

The agenda will be posted Friday, May 12, 2023 and the public will be able to review the MOU and the amendment at that time. Please visit the County of Siskiyou agenda website to view the agenda and MOU
